Zero Exponent

Zero Exponent

How to solve zero exponent problems: examples and their solutions.

Example 1

Simplify each expression. (a is not equal to 0) 1. 2^0 2. ((-a)^0)b^3

If the exponent is 0,
then the value of that number is 1.

So 20 = 1.

If the exponent is 0
and the base (-a) is not 0,
then (-a)0 = 1.

Example 2

Simplify the given expression. (x, y are not equal to 0) (4(x^2)(y)^0)*(-3xy)^0

y0 = 1.
And (-3xy)0 = 1.
