# Solving Rational Equations

How to solve rational equations: example and its solution.

## Example

Write the excluded values.*x* ≠ 0, 1.

Multiply the LCD on each fraction: *x*(*x* - 1)

It's OK to multiply the LCD on both sides

because *x*(*x* - 1) ≠ 0.

Solve the equation.

Then *x* = -4, 1.

But *x* ≠ 1.

(Line 2)

So the answer is *x* = 4.
