# Parallel Lines

How to solve parallel lines problems (linear equations): definition, example, and its solution.

## Definition

Parallel lines are lines

that have the same slope.

The red symbols are parallel lines symbols.

## Example

The line is parallel to *y* = 3*x* + 4.

So the slope of the line is 3.

And the line passes through (1, -2).

So write the linear equation

in point-slope form:*y* - (-2) = 3(*x* - 1).

Change this form into slope-intercept form.

You can see that

the given line (*y* = 3*x* + 4)

and the answer (*y* = 3*x* - 5)

are parallel.
