Conjunction

How to solve the conjunction of two statements problems: its truth values, examples, and their solutions.

Truth Value

p conjunction q is true if both p and q are true.

pq is the conjunction of p and q.

It means 'p and q'.

So pq is true
if both p and q are true.

Example 1

The symbols represent statements: p: 5 is a positive number. q: 1 + 1 = 3. Find the truth value for 'p conjunction q'.

'p: 5 is a positive number' is true.

'q: 1 + 1 = 3' is false.

So 'pq' is false.

Example 2

The symbols represent statements: p: 5 is a positive number. r: 4 > 2. Find the truth value for 'p conjunction r'.

'p: 5 is a positive number' is true.

'r: 4 > 2' is true.

So 'pr' is true.
